UPDATE: Polish, Ukrainian officials discuss energy at conference in Warsaw

Polish and Ukrainian government officials and experts gathered at Warsaw’s National Stadium on Wednesday to discuss bilateral cooperation in forging “the energy security of the future” and rebuilding Ukraine after Russia's invasion.

Entitled Polish-Ukrainian Partnership in Building the Energy Security of the Future, the conference seeks to explore ways to deepen Polish-Ukrainian energy cooperation, achieve synergies, and facilitate the exchange of experience, according to officials.

Participants include Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

Mateusz Berger, the Polish government’s commissioner for strategic energy infrastructure, said the main aim of the conference was “to strengthen Polish-Ukrainian cooperation in building the energy security of the future.”

He told reporters: “We want to talk, not just about Ukraine, but with Ukraine. The conference brings together Ukrainian government officials, Ukrainian energy companies, including power transmission companies, gas companies and fuel companies, as well as Polish firms and officials.” 

Berger added that Poland "wants to play an active role in the reconstruction of Ukraine.”

The Warsaw conference opened with a session featuring Polish and Ukrainian government officials, followed by an inter-governmental panel discussion, with speakers including Berger and Poland’s Climate and Environment Minister Anna Moskwapublic broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Polish Radio is a media partner of the conference, which has been organised by the state-run Polish Nuclear Stations company (PEJ). 

Wednesday is day 385 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
