The announcement came following discussions between Zelensky and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, cementing a landmark agreement between the two nations.
Zelensky shared the news on Sunday, underscoring the collaborative efforts that have culminated in this strategic advancement for Ukraine's armed forces. The transfer of the F-16 aircraft relies upon the training of Ukrainian pilots and engineers.
"We have reached an accord with Prime Minister Mark Rutte regarding the allocation of 42 F-16s to Ukraine. This transfer will occur subsequent to the comprehensive training of our pilots and engineering personnel. This is just the initial phase," Zelensky announced on Telegram.
"These aircraft will serve as a crucial tool in our efforts to ensure the safety and protection of our cities and villages, shielding them from the reach of Russian terrorists. Our resolve remains unshaken," Zelensky asserted.
