Russia's defence ministry said it had shot down a modified S-200 missile over the Kaluga region near Moscow, the Reuters news agency reported.
"The missile was detected and destroyed by air defences over the territory of the Kaluga region," the Russian defence ministry said, as quoted by Reuters.
There were no casualties, according to regional governor Vladislav Shapsha.
The Russian defence ministry also said that Ukraine launched a total of 42 drones to attack Crimea early on Friday, Reuters reported.
Nine drones were destroyed by Russian air defence forces, while 33 were suppressed by electronic warfare and crashed over Crimea without reaching their targets, the Russian defence ministry said, as cited by Reuters.
Russian airports suspended flights for a few hours, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from the attacks, according to Reuters.
A day earlier, Ukraine's navy and military intelligence carried out an ambitious "special operation" in which they landed troops on the shores of the Russian-occupied Crimea peninsula, according to reports at the time.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday vowed to end Russia's occupation of Crimea, Reuters reported.
Polish President Andrzej Duda on Wednesday reiterated his condemnation of Russia’s illegal occupation of Crimea and other parts of Ukraine.
Russia annexed the Crimea peninsula from Ukraine in 2014. On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine by land, air and sea, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
Friday is day 548 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
