The US think tank made the assessment in its latest report on the war in Ukraine, published on Sunday night.

The ISW wrote that Ukrainian forces on Sunday “continued to advance” south of the recently liberated, strategic village of Robotyne, in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, and reportedly advanced near the Russian-held city of Bakhmut, in the eastern Donetsk province.

According to geolocated footage released on Sunday, Ukrainian forces have advanced east of Novoprokopivka (18km southeast of Orikhiv), in Zaporizhzhia, the US think tank reported.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Tavriisk Group of Forces Spokesperson Oleksandr Shtupun noted that Ukrainian forces continue to advance near Robotyne (12km south of Orikhiv) and have liberated 1.5 square kilometers of territory in this direction, the ISW added.

In addition, according to the Ukrainian General Staff and Ukrainian Eastern Group of Forces Spokesperson Ilya Yevlash, Ukrainian forces achieved unspecified success near Klishchiivka (7km southwest of Bakhmut), the US think tank said.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv’s forces “have advanced” in the east and south over the past week, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

In his nightly video address to the nation, Zelensky said: “Over the past seven days, we have advanced. There is movement in the Tavria [South] directions. There is movement in the Bakhmut direction.”

He added: “I am grateful to all the warriors who make this possible! Every week, our warriors continuously keep the initiative in the hands of Ukraine.”

Monday is day 565 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
