Austin was speaking in Brussels alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as officials from dozens of countries gathered to discuss further Western support for Kyiv's war effort against Russia's invasion, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

"The United States will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes," Austin declared at the start of the meeting of Ukraine's allies in Brussels.

"We’re here to dig deep to meet Ukraine’s most urgent needs — especially for air defense and ammunition," Austin added, as quoted by the Reuters news agency.

He renewed the pledge amid political chaos in the US Congress and the crisis in the Middle East, Reuters reported.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.

Wednesday is day 595 of Russia’war on Ukraine.
