It added that Ukrainian troops also maintained their counteroffensive efforts near Bakhmut and in the direction of the port of Melitopol on the Sea of Azov.
Ukraine’s military command provided the latest battlefield update via Facebook on Wednesday night, the Espreso TV website reported.
Ukrainian forces continued their counteroffensive against Russia’s invading army “in the Melitopol sector and in the Bakhmut sector” on Wednesday, according to officials.
Ukraine’s troops were inflicting "losses in manpower and equipment on the occupation forces," and exhausting the enemy "along the entire front line,” the General Staff in Kyiv said.
In all, Ukrainian and Russian forces clashed 66 times in combat engagements during the day, Espreso TV reported.
Russian attacks
Russia on Wednesday launched a total of 47 air strikes and some 25 attacks with multiple-launch rocket systems at Ukrainian troops as well as populated areas, according to Ukraine’s General Staff.
Russia dropped a guided aerial bomb on the city of Beryslav in Ukraine’s southern Kherson region, killing a 13-year-old boy, state news agency Ukrinform reported.
Private houses and other civilian facilities were damaged and destroyed, Espreso TV reported.
Russia also continued to shell the borderland with Ukraine with mortars and artillery, targeting over 30 settlements in Ukraine’s Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions, the General Staff in Kyiv said.
Russia attacked Ukraine with 11 Shahed kamikaze drones early on Wednesday, damaging buildings near the Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant in western Ukraine, news outlets reported.
Ukraine’s air force said it had brought down all the Russian drones, but blast waves and falling debris damaged apartment buildings and other civilian facilities, as well as injuring civilians, according to officials.
Ukrainian attacks
Meanwhile, Ukraine on Wednesday launched seven air strikes on the positions of Russian troops; Ukrainian forces also fired missiles into three Russian munitions sites, six pieces of Russian artillery and a Russian air defence radar station, Espreso TV reported.
As part of its latest counteroffensive against Russia, Ukraine is pushing through Zaporizhzhia in the southeast, in a bid to reach the port of Melitopol on the Sea of Azov, as well as aiming to retake Bakhmut in the east, among other objectives.
Wednesday is day 609 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
