Ukraine’s military command issued the latest frontline update via Facebook on Monday night, state news agency Ukrinform reported.

“Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive operations on the Melitopol axis,” in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, and “assault operations on the Bakhmut axis,” in the eastern Donetsk region, the General Staff in Kyiv said.

Ukrainian troops are “inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on the occupation forces, exhausting the enemy all along the front line,” according to Ukraine’s military authorities.

In all, Ukrainian and Russian forces on Monday clashed in 57 combat engagements, the Ukrinform news agency reported.

Russian strikes

Russia on Monday conducted 10 air strikes and 24 attacks using multiple-launch rocket systems against the positions of Ukrainian troops and at civilian settlements, Ukraine’s General Staff said.

These attacks resulted in injuries to civilians as well as damage and destruction of private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure, military officials in Kyiv added.

Ukrainian attacks

Meanwhile, Ukraine on Monday carried out five air strikes on the positions of the invading Russian army, the Espreso TV website reported.

Ukraine’s air force also struck a Russian anti-aircraft missile system, according to the General Staff in Kyiv.

Ukraine fired missiles into three Russian artillery systems, a Russian command centre and a concentration of Russian manpower, Espreso TV reported.

Ukraine on Monday confirmed it had struck a Russian missile carrier stationed in Kerch, in occupied Crimea, on Saturday, the Ukrinform news agency reported.

Ukraine’s military said: "Confirmed. Russia's Askold missile carrier, the newest Karakurt-class ship with stealth technology, was damaged in a Ukrainian Armed Forces strike on the naval and port infrastructure of the Zalyv shipyard in temporarily occupied Crimea.“

The strike “seriously damaged” the Russian ship, possibly beyond repair, according to the Ukrainian military.

As part of its latest counteroffensive against Russia, Ukraine is pushing through Zaporizhzhia in the southeast, in a bid to reach the port of Melitopol on the Sea of Azov, as well as aiming to retake Bakhmut in the east, among other objectives, according to news reports.

Tuesday is day 622 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
