The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine published a recap of the latest frontline developments via Facebook on Tuesday morning.

Ukrainian forces are continuing their assault operations near the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on the Russian army, the military authorities in Kyiv said.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian troops are also keeping up their counteroffensive operations towards the port of Melitopol in Zaporizhzhia province, the General Staff added.

Ukrainian forces have been depleting the manpower and military hardware of the Russian army, "exhausting the enemy along the entire frontline," according to Ukraine's military command.

On Monday, Ukrainian and Russian forces engaged in 80 combat clashes, the General Staff in Kyiv said.

Russian strikes

Russia on Monday carried out four missile attacks, 53 air strikes and 45 attacks using multiple-launch rocket systems, targeting Ukrainian troops as well as civilian settlements, including Kherson City in the south.

There were casualties and injuries among civilians, as well as damage and destruction of  residential buildings and other civilian facilities, Ukraine's military command said.

Russia used mortars, self-propelled guns and automatic grenade launchers, among other weapons, to repeatedly shell Ukraine's northeastern Sumy region, causing 103 explosions, the Ukrainska Pravda website reported.

Ukrainian attacks

Ukraine on Monday carried out eight air strikes on concentrations of Russian troops, weapons and military equipment, and another air strike on a Russian anti-aircraft missile system, the General Staff in Kyiv stated.

Ukraine also fired missiles into six concentrations of Russian troops, weapons and military equipment, two Russian command posts, six pieces of Russian artillery, a Russian air defence system and one other important Russian target, Ukraine's military authorities added.

Russia regrouping forces in Ukraine's Kherson region?

Russian state media on Monday released and quickly retracted reports of a "regrouping" of Russian troops on the east (left) bank of the Dnipro river in Ukraine's southern Kherson region, the Reuters news agency reported.

This suggests that "the Russian command and/or Russian state media apparatus has failed to establish a coordinated information line for the Russian response" to ongoing Ukrainian operations in the area, according to the Institute for the Study of War.

Ukraine has conducted larger-than-usual ground operations on the east bank of the Dnipro in Kherson province in recent weeks, the US think tank noted.

As part of its latest counteroffensive against Russia, Ukraine is pushing through Zaporizhzhia in the southeast, in a bid to reach the port of Melitopol on the Sea of Azov, as well as aiming to retake Bakhmut in the east, among other objectives.

Tuesday is day 629 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
