Speaking at the start of a two-day meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels, Stoltenberg said that NATO members needed to ensure that they provide Ukraine with the weapons Kyiv needs.
"We just have to stay the course," Stoltenberg told reporters. "This is about also our security interests."
He added: "I'm confident that the United States will continue to provide support and because it is in the security interests of the United States to do so. And it's also in line with what we have agreed."
Stoltenberg told reporters that the war in Ukraine had significance far beyond its borders, the Reuters news agency reported.
"It will be a tragedy for Ukrainians if President Putin wins, but it will also be dangerous for us," he said, as quoted by Reuters.
"Then the message to all authoritarian leaders - not only in Moscow, but also in Beijing - is that when they violate international law, when they invade another country, when they use force, they get what they want," he added.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters in Brussels that NATO foreign ministers would be "strongly reaffirming our support for Ukraine as it continues to face Russia's war of aggression," Reuters reported.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest military conflict in Europe since World War II.
Tuesday is day 643 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
