The latest figures were published by Britain's ministry of defence over the weekend.

In the course of 2023, the average number of Russian soldiers killed or wounded in Ukraine every day has increased by almost 300, compared with 2022, according to officials in London.

This increase likely reflects the degradation of Russia's invading forces in Ukraine.

Moreover, it likely stems from Russia's transition to a "lower quality, high quantity mass army" since the Kremlin's "partial mobilisation" of reservists in September 2022, the British ministry of defence said.

If Russia continues to sustain personnel losses at the current rate, by 2025 it will have had over half a million troops killed or injured during the three-year invasion of Ukraine.

By comparison, the Soviet Union suffered 70,000 casualties in the nine-year Soviet-Afghan War in the 1980s, acording to officials in London.

As of Tuesday morning, Ukrainian forces have killed 360,820 Russian soldiers since the Kremlin's February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, inluding 810 over the previous 24 hours, the General Staff in Kyiv said.

Tuesday is day 678 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
