Ukrainian officials said falling debris from downed missiles cut off power supply to parts of the capital.
A series of blasts rocked Kyiv during the attack, with air defence systems engaged in destroying the missiles, the Reuters news agency reported, citing Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
Klitschko said on the Telegram messaging app that at least six people were injured in the Ukrainian capital.
"In total, six people have been injured in the capital as a result of the enemy attack," he said, as quoted by Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform.
All of Ukraine was under air raid alert during morning rush hour, with Ukraine's Air Force warning of a risk of Russian missile attacks across the country, according to Reuters.
Authorities said Kyiv's Dniprovskyi district was left partially without electricity.
Elsewhere, Russian missiles struck targets including non-residential infrastructure in the northeastern city of Kharkiv, according to regional governor Oleh Synehubov.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.
Wednesday is day 714 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
