The talks were dominated by economic issues. The President discussed with the Emir of Qatar, particularly on deepening energy cooperation and Qatari investments in our country.
The primary focus was on security – both in the context of the situation in the Middle East and in our region. President Duda argued that Qatar is Poland's leading energy partner.
"Qatar is one of the guarantors of our energy security, as it is one of the main suppliers of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Poland. This is of great importance, especially after February 24, 2022, when Russian gas deliveries to Poland ended due to Russia's aggression against Ukraine," explained the President's Office through x.com.
"Qatar is absolutely a top energy partner for Poland today as a supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to our LNG terminal in Świnoujście and for our energy and gas security system," said President Duda.
He added that this concerns not only the security of our country but also that of neighboring European countries connected to this system via interconnectors.
Qatar is one of the largest producers and the largest exporter of LNG, in which Poland is investing. This fact is particularly significant since the Russian aggression against Ukraine, when Russian gas supplies to Poland ceased.
During the meeting, Poland and Qatar signed a bilateral intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in higher education and science.
