The discussions are a continuation of talks held on Thursday, where foreign ministers also focused on enhancing military aid to Kyiv.
Key topics for the defense ministers include accelerating the delivery of military equipment to Ukraine and reconsidering restrictions on the use of Western-supplied long-range weapons by Ukrainian forces against Russian military targets.
Josep Borrell, the EU's foreign policy chief, voiced strong support for Kyiv's requests during the foreign ministers' meeting. "The weapons supplied to Ukraine must be used in full, otherwise they are useless," he said.
Another critical issue on the table is the future of the EU's mission to train Ukrainian soldiers, with the current mandate set to expire in two months. The mission, which has already trained nearly 60,000 Ukrainian troops across EU countries, is headquartered in Poland.
While there are proposals to extend and expand the mission, some EU members have expressed reservations about moving the training to Ukraine, citing concerns about provoking Russia and the safety of EU instructors.
