US unveils $250m arms package for Ukraine

The United States on Friday unveiled a new USD 250 million arms package for Ukraine's defence against Russia.

According to a statement by the UDepartment of Defense, the new package includes air defense missiles; munitions for rocket systems and artillery; armored vehicles; and anti-tank weapons designed to meet Ukraine's most urgent needs.

The package contains RIM-7 missiles and support for air defense; Stinger missiles; ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS); 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition; Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided (TOW) missiles; and Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems, according to the Pentagon.

Washington will also provide Kyiv with Bradley infantry fighting vehicles; M113 armored personnel carriers; Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Vehicles; small arms ammunition and grenades; patrol boats; and maritime training equipment.

Other capabilities include demolitions equipment and munitions; and spare parts, ancillary equipment, services, training and transportation, the statement said.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the United States has committed around USD 55.9 billion in security assistance to help the country defend itself, the UDepartment of Defense said.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Friday is day 926 of Russia’war on Ukraine.
