The announcement followed discussions between Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Berlin on Friday.
The aid, valued at EUR 1.4 billion, is expected to be delivered to Ukraine before the end of this year. In addition to Germany, Belgium, Denmark, and Norway are contributing to the package.
“This package will include more IRIS-T and SkyNext air defense systems, as well as Gepard tanks, armored howitzers, armored vehicles, combat drones, radar systems, and artillery ammunition,” Scholz detailed before a private meeting with Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy, for his part, emphasized Ukraine's desire for peace. “I am presenting our closest allies with a plan for achieving peace, one that we believe is realistic. Nothing is more important to us than peace, as this war is devastating our Ukraine,” the Ukrainian president stated.
In addition to military aid, Germany continues to send specialists to assist with repairs and maintenance of Ukraine’s energy and heating networks, which have been deliberately targeted by Russian missile strikes especially ahead of winter.
