"My political opponent is Vladimir Putin, and I will do everything I can to bring his regime down as soon as possible," said the wife of anti-Kremlin opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who passed away in February 2024.
In an interview with the BBC, Yulia Navalnaya confirmed that Russian authorities had prevented her from seeing her husband for two years until the time of his death.
Due to the risk of being arrested, she was unable to attend his funeral in Moscow. The Kremlin accuses her of involvement in an extremist organization - Putin's supporters have labeled the anti-corruption foundation, which was founded by her husband, as such.
The interview was published just ahead of the release of Navalny’s autobiography, titled Patriot, which will be available on October 22 in 26 different languages.
Yulia Navalnaya is currently living in exile and serves as the head of the Human Rights Foundation.
Meanwhile, Dasha Navalnaya, the couple’s 23-year-old daughter and a Stanford University graduate, is working on the campaign staff of U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, according to the Polish state news agency PAP, citing the independent portal Meduza.
Alexei Navalny, Russia's most prominent anti-Kremlin opposition figure, died under unclear circumstances in a labor camp located beyond the Arctic Circle, where he was serving a 19-year prison sentence. Russian authorities announced his sudden death on February 16, 2024.
