"We’re doing pretty well, I think, with Russia," Trump said on Sunday, as cited by US broadcaster CNN.

"We’ll see if we have something to announce maybe by Tuesday, I’ll be speaking to President Putin on Tuesday," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One during a flight back to Washington from his residence in Florida.

"A lot of work’s been done over the weekend, we want to see if we can bring that war to an end," he said.

"Maybe we can, maybe we can’t, but I think we have a very good chance," he added.

Ukraine agreed last week to a US-sponsored 30-day ceasefire plan.

Despite that, hostilities continued over the weekend, as Russia launched a renewed push against Ukrainian forces holding a months-old position in Russia’s Kursk region, the Reuters news agency reported.

Trump told reporters that negotiators working to end the Russia-Ukraine war had already discussed "dividing up certain assets."

He said: "We’ll be talking about land. A lot of land is a lot different than it was before the war, as you know. We’ll be talking about land, we’ll be talking about power plants, that’s a big question."

Trump added: "But I think we have a lot of it already discussed, very much, by both sides, Ukraine and Russia. We’re already talking about that – dividing up certain assets."
