The south-western town of Bolesławiec in Lower Silesia invites for a pottery fair that introduces their big Ceramics Fete beginning this coming Wednesday. More than 100 exhibitors from Poland and abroad are expected. The event also includes a parade, exhibition of pottery sculpture and workshops.
The fete in Bolesławiec, launched 25 years ago is Poland's biggest such event for ceramics, and one of the biggest in Europe. The town has been a major producer of pottery for several hundred years, after rich resources of clay were discovered in the area in the 14th century. The same clay is still being used nowadays.
Bolesławiec is best known for its blue and white pottery hand decorated using a stamping technique.
The fete opens with a colourful parade with the participation of local authorities, representatives of ceramics factories and art ensembles. The culmination of the parade is a ceremony in which the keys to the town are handed over to the Bolesławiec Pottery Fraternity.
At the five-day fair, visitors will also be able to join workshops in pottery turning, painting on biscuit china or sculpting in clay. Spokeswoman for the Bolesławiec authorities Agnieszka Gergont also informs, that the festival also includes the 55th edition of the International Open Air Ceramics and Sculpture gathering the best artists working with ceramics from the world over.
The Bolesławiec Ceramics Fair ends on Sunday, August 18. (ek/di)
