Near on 10 million quarantine checks by Polish Police

Since the beginning of restrictions introduced to combat COVID-19 in Poland police have carried out near on 10 million checks of people in self-isolation, informed representatives of the National Headquarters in Warsaw.

 Inspector Mariusz Ciarka said that only within the last 24 hours police had checked on 73 thousand people in quarantine. 

There were 863 cases of quarantine violations which qualified for prosecution. 22 people asked for help in everyday chores such as shopping or taking out rubbish. 

 The report from the State Police Headquarters also stated that since the beginning of the pandemic, about 240 officers had contracted the virus, 198  recovered. Altogether, some 3700 officers had been in self-isolation. 107 are self-isolating now.

 Inspector Ciarka said that since the state of epidemic was introduced, police had carried out 2 275 771 related patrols, not connected to monitoring people in quarantine. He said that every day, between 17 - 20 thousand officers are tasked with prevention duties, and reminded that violating restrictions can incur fines of between 5 to 30 thousand PLN.

 According to the newest report from the Health Ministry published this Saturday, there have been 305 new cases of COVID-19 infection in Poland, bringing the total number to 37,521 with 1,568 deaths. 26,635 people have recovered.
