The prosecution has launched an investigation into the fire that covered 6,500 square meters. Despite ongoing firefighting efforts, a decision was made to begin inspections by experts.
"We do not rule out acts of sabotage, but we are far from spreading panic," Dobrzyński told PAP. He confirmed that the services are considering sabotage but are still thoroughly verifying all information related to the incident.
"Fires have always happened, happen now, and will continue to happen. We cannot lump everything together and generalize that these are acts of sabotage. That's why we take this very seriously," emphasized the spokesperson.
The Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, Tomasz Siemoniak, explained to "Rzeczpospolita" that due to acts of sabotage in our country, the services have been considering the possibility of sabotage in every case for some time. He added that in the case of the Sunday fire, the Internal Security Agency (ABW) also became involved in addressing the matter.
Siemoniak indicated on TVN24 that recent incidents, including the attempted arson of a construction warehouse in Wrocław, demonstrate the need to consider the possibility of foreign agencies hiring one-time agents to set fires using minimal funds and amateur equipment.
Because of the fire, all Gdańsk beaches in the coastal strip from the port towards Jelitkowo, as well as those in Sopot, were closed.
