In an interview with Bogdan Rymanowski on Radio ZET, Kwaśniewski suggested that Republican Donald Trump’s victory could serve as “fuel” for Poland's conservative Law and Justice Party (PiS), which lost its governing power last year to the liberal-democratic Civic Coalition (KO).
According to Kwaśniewski, close ties between Polish conservatives and Trump may become a focal point in next year’s Polish presidential campaign, potentially strengthening PiS's belief that victory over liberals is possible.
“This won’t determine the outcome, to be clear, but I believe it will be one of the main topics in what promises to be a particularly tough and intense presidential campaign—the likes of which we haven’t seen in recent years,” Kwaśniewski emphasized.
Kwaśniewski urges Duda to brief Trump on Ukraine, citing need for “credible information”
In a separate conversation with Konrad Piasecki on TVN24, Kwaśniewski remarked that “Trump is unpredictable, even according to his own supporters and collaborators,” making it hard to foresee how his potential new term might unfold.
He also advised current Polish President Andrzej Duda to explain the complex Ukrainian situation and regional dynamics to Trump, if possible, saying he would encourage Duda to engage in such a “last mission, a last dance,” to fulfill an obligation toward both Poland and Ukraine.
Kwaśniewski stressed that Trump needs “credible information from people here on the ground, to avoid mistakes, to avoid falling for illusions, and not to be naive.”
UPDATE: Kaczyński optimistic about Trump’s victory and its impact on Poland’s election
According to the Polish state news agency PAP, Jarosław Kaczyński, the leader of the Law and Justice party (PiS), expressed satisfaction with Donald Trump's expected victory in this year's election.
He believes that the Republican candidate's win could boost the chances of the right-wing in Poland's upcoming presidential campaign.
