The Law and Justice (PiS) party's presidential candidate is 41-year-old Karol Nawrocki, the head of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) and a father of three.
In February 2024, Karol Nawrocki was placed on Russia's wanted list in connection with his involvement in the removal of Soviet-era monuments in Poland that commemorate the presence of the Red Army.
Other potential candidates previously suggested by the party include Przemysław Czarnek and Tobiasz Bocheński.
On Sunday, PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński announced the official presidential candidate for his party at a meeting held at 4 p.m. in the "Sokół" Gymnastics Society building in Kraków.
This venue held symbolic significance, as it was where the previous candidate, Andrzej Duda, was first announced before going on to win the presidency for two terms.
