"Backstage at CPAC, President Trump met with President Andrzej Duda of Poland and reaffirmed our close alliance," the White House said in an X post, after the two held talks on the sidelines of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in suburban Washington.
"President Trump also praised President Andrzej Duda for Poland’s commitment to increase their defense spending," the White House added.
The Polish President's Office said on X that Duda and Trump discussed Poland's security amid Russia's ongoing war in neighbouring Ukraine.
It added that, despite speculation, Trump "confirmed he envisions strengthening the American military presence in Poland rather than reducing it."
During the meeting, Trump "firmly stated that he wants the war in Ukraine to end, that it breaks his heart to see Ukrainian cities destroyed, and that the only way forward is to engage in talks with Vladimir Putin," according to the Polish President's Office.
'Trump envisions strengthening America's military presence in Poland'
Duda told a news conference that he was satisfied with his meeting with Trump.
“The president confirmed what I had discussed with US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth—that Donald Trump envisions strengthening America's military presence in Poland," Duda said.
He added that Trump described Poland as "one of the most reliable allies" and noted that Poland and the United States "are connected not only by military ties but also by growing economic cooperation."
Duda told reporters that his conversation with Trump also touched on ending the war in Ukraine.
Trump "firmly stated that the war in Ukraine must end, that this is his main goal, that he wants to stop the loss of life, that the war cannot continue in this way, and that the only way to achieve peace is through talks with Putin," according to Duda.
'He clearly said that he intends to visit Poland'
Duda also said that during their meeting, he invited Trump to visit Poland.
“It remains to be determined whether this visit will take place in connection with the Three Seas Initiative summit or the upcoming NATO summit in The Hague," Duda said. "This depends on Donald Trump's schedule, but he clearly said that he intends to visit Poland."
After his meeting with Trump, Duda attended the CPAC conference, a major conservative gathering in the United States, the Polish President's Office said.
Duda's talks with Trump came a day after Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski attended the CPAC conference and met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington to discuss Russia's nearly three-year-old war against Ukraine and efforts to bring peace to the country.
'No other way to stop bloodshed and achieve lasting peace'
Duda said on Friday he had spoken on the phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss ways of achieving a lasting peace in Ukraine and the US administration's negotiations with Moscow.
"I conveyed to him that we consistently believe there is no other way to stop the bloodshed and achieve lasting peace in Ukraine except with the support of the United States," Duda wrote on X.
Duda urges 'calm and constructive cooperation' with Trump
"For this reason, I suggested to President Zelensky to remain committed to the course of calm and constructive cooperation with US President Donald Trump," Duda added.
"I trust that good will and honesty form the foundation of the U.S. negotiation strategy," Duda also said in his post.
Trump 'guided by a deep sense of responsibility for global stability'
The Polish president further shared that he was in "no doubt that President Trump is guided by a deep sense of responsibility for global stability and peace."
Poland’s National Security Council is set to gather on Monday for key discussions on national unity in the face of international challenges, following a decision by Duda earlier this week.
Monday will mark three years since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Poland's neighbour to the east.
