Of the new cases confirmed on Sunday, 3,496 were in the densely populated southern coal-mining region of Silesia.
Meanwhile, 3,144 new infections were reported in the central region of Mazowieckie, which includes the national capital Warsaw.
The western province of Wielkopolskie, which is home to the major city of Poznań, had the third-highest number of new infections confirmed by officials on Sunday, at 2,567.
The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 171 people with pre-existing medical conditions and 74 who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.
On Thursday, Poland confirmed a record 954 deaths and 27,887 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 638 deaths and 14,910 fresh cases a day earlier.
On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country more than a year ago.
Poland’s second-highest number of daily cases was when 35,143 new coronavirus infections were confirmed nationwide on March 26.
On November 25, the country reported its third-highest daily toll of 674 deaths related to the coronavirus.

33,460 in hospitals, 394,193 quarantined
The health ministry announced on Sunday morning that 33,460 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 3,225 of them on ventilators, with a further 394,193 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.
Meanwhile, 2,171,301 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.
