The move was announced by Family and Social Policy Minister Marlena Maląg on Tuesday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
The new rules "will enable employers and employees to make agreements regarding telework,” she told a news conference.
“Such agreements can be made when the employment contract is signed, but also at any later point,” Maląg said.
She added that employers would have to agree their in-house telework rules with trade unions "or other representatives of the workforce."
Employers to share costs, provide tools
Employers will "participate in the costs of telework" and will be required to "provide the necessary tools and materials," reporters were told.
Telework is set to be a guaranteed option for female employees who are pregnant, as well as for those who have a child of up to four years of age or a child with disability, officials said.
Until now, working from home was for the most part governed by COVID-19 regulations and the decision on whether to allow telecommuting rested with the employer, the PAP news agency reported.
