The deal was signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak, state news agency PAP reported.
70 remote turret systems for PLN 700 mln
Under the contract, the army will receive 70 ZSSW-30 remote turret systems for its Rosomak (Wolverine) wheeled armoured personnel carriers, officials said.
Produced by a consortium of domestic defence contractors, HSW and WB Electronics, the ZSSW-30 remote turret system is equipped with a 30mm cannon and a 7.62mm machine gun, as well as with a double launcher for the Spike LR anti-tank guided missiles, the PAP news agency reported.
“This is a really strong weapon that gives its user an advantage on the battlefield,” Błaszczak told the media in the southeastern Polish city of Stalowa Wola.
The deal is worth PLN 700 million, or around EUR 150 million, the PAP news agency reported.
Błaszczak told reporters: “We want the Polish army to be equipped with modern weapons so that it can deter an aggressor by having brilliantly trained soldiers who work fantastically well with soldiers from NATO countries, especially the US Army.”
First batch in 2023
“The first batch of these remote turret systems will be completed as early as next year, which is very good news,” Błaszczak said.
Tuesday’s announcement represents another step in Poland’s plans to modernise its armed forces amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine, officials said.
