The prime minister announced his decision on Tuesday afternoon, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
Morawiecki told reporters: “Katarzyna Sójka is well prepared for the role. She’s a doctor with more than 10 years of professional experience.”
The prime minister said that the ministerial candidate, who is an MP with the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, would “continue the most important and best” aspects of Poland’s health policy, thanks to her “experience, empathy and approach to these issues.”
He said he would ask President Andrzej Duda to approve the new appointment.
Morawiecki thanked the outgoing health minister.
He said Niedzielski "assumed the role when the global COVID-19 pandemic broke out and the government had to carry out additional, very complex tasks that no one had learned before.”
Niedzielski quit after he sparked a public outcry over the disclosure of sensitive medical data, leading to calls for his resignation two months before a parliamentary election, the Bloomberg news agency reported.
