High winds and thunderstorms lashed the country’s central and southern provinces as well as the Wielkopolskie region in the west, Karol Kierzkowski, a spokesman for the State Fire Service, said on Wednesday evening.

Hundreds of firefighters were deployed to help pump water out of flooded basements and remove fallen trees from roads and railroad tracksKierzkowski told the media.

The Government Centre for Security (RCB) sent out millions of text messages alerting people in various provinces over intense rainfall and possible storms causing a risk of local flooding and power outages.
