House Speaker tops list as Poland's most trusted politician

Lower-house Speaker Szymon Hołownia has emerged as Poland's most trusted politician, according to a new survey, edging out Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski and President Andrzej Duda, who tied for second place.

Pollster CBOS said that trust levels for Hołownia and Trzaskowski remained stable compared with a similar survey a month earlier, while Duda's trust rating dropped by 1 percentage point.

Meanwhile, 34 percent of respondents expressed distrust toward Hołownia, a decrease of 3 percentage points from the previous month, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Distrust toward Trzaskowski, a former presidential candidate and likely contender in next year's presidential race, stood at 35 percent, down by 4 percentage points from September.

For Duda, distrust was at 41 percent, decreasing by 1 percentage point from the previous poll, CBOS found.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz ranked as the fourth-most trusted politician in the country, with 42 percent of respondents expressing confidence in him.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk followed in fifth place, with 41 percent, and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski came in sixth, with 39 percent.

The survey also revealed that opposition leader Jarosław Kaczyński and former conservative Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki are Poland's most distrusted politicians, followed by Tusk.

Fifty-seven percent of respondents said they distrusted Kaczyński, while 53 percent expressed distrust in Morawiecki.

Forty-four percent of those polled said they distrusted Tusk, CBOS reported.

The survey was carried out from October 3 to 13 on a sample of 1,025 respondents.
