Paying tribute to the popular actor and satirist, Prime Minister Donald Tusk referenced Tym's most memorable roles in films directed by Stanisław Bareja about life in Poland under communism.
"You taught us to laugh at authority, at the grim reality of those times, and at ourselves," Tusk wrote in a post on the X social media platform.
"Today, we are saddened, but surely things are much brighter up there in the heavens," he added.
The Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage also expressed its condolences, praising Tym for his acting, film screenplays, directing, as well as his satirical performances and humorous columns.
Tym died on Friday at the age of 87.
His death was confirmed by the editorial team of Polityka magazine, where he had been a columnist for many years.
