The most important issue will be combating illegal migration, which has been recognized as the number one priority among EU interior ministers, Tomasz Siemoniak said during a press conference in Warsaw on Monday.
He added that new policies and solutions are needed in this area, while also noting that the EU has supported Poland with over EUR 50 million for the protection of the bloc's external border.
Another priority for Poland will be fighting organized crime, including human trafficking, drug trafficking and the production of new illegal substances, Siemoniak told reporters.
A further key area of focus will be population protection, rescue operations and humanitarian aid.
Siemoniak also announced a meeting of EU interior and justice ministers in Warsaw at the end of January.
Poland's presidency of the EU Council will begin on January 1 and last for the next six months.
