The official meeting with Polish politicians is related to the upcoming presidential elections in Belarus, scheduled for January, in which the widely unrecognized leader, Alaksandr Lukashenko, intends to run for a seventh consecutive term.

According to Tsikhanouskaya, this event has nothing to do with upholding democratic principles.

“What’s happening in Belarus at the end of January is not an election – it’s a sham. Fair elections are impossible when independent media are silenced, political parties dissolved & leaders imprisoned or exiled. This is nothing more than an empty ritual,” she emphasized on social media.

Tsikhanouskaya thanks Poland for supporting democratic opposition

After meeting with the head of the Polish government, Tsikhanouskaya thanked Donald Tusk for his support of the people of Belarus.

The leader of the Belarusian democratic opposition expressed her satisfaction that Belarus is a key issue in Poland's EU Presidency, with a strong emphasis on solidarity and security.

She emphasized that the struggle is not only for a free Belarus and Ukraine, but also for the future of Europe as a whole.

Tsikhanouskaya to present her program during visit to Poland's EU Presidency

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Paweł Kowal, in a comment for the Polish State News Agency (PAP), pointed out that during her visit to Poland, Tsikhanouskaya will meet with the members of the combined Foreign Affairs and European Affairs Committees, as well as with the Minister for EU Affairs, Adam Szłapka.

"I’m glad that 4.5 years after the elections in Belarus and the revolution, we have the opportunity to meet with Mrs. Tsikhanouskaya in this format and discuss the plan for the presence of a free Belarus in the context of our Presidency, as a partner of the EU," emphasized Kowal.

He also added that the aim was to organize a joint meeting of Poland's Parliament at the start of its EU Presidency, allowing Mrs. Tsikhanouskaya to deliver a speech and present her program.
