He described these remarks as "too familiar and ominous," especially just hours before Monday's 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

Elon Musk, the American billionaire and close associate of U.S. President Donald Trump, remotely connected with participants at a rally of the right-wing populist party Alternative for Germany (AfD) on Saturday. During his speech, Musk argued that Germany "focuses too much on past wrongs."

"We should leave that behind. Children should not feel guilty for the sins of their fathers or even their grandfathers," Musk said. He added that "it is very important for people in Germany to be proud of being German."

After Musk’s speech, AfD leader and party chancellor candidate Alice Weidel remarked, "Did you hear that? Americans are making their country great again, and we are making our country great again. Make Germany great again!"

On Sunday, Tusk responded to these remarks on the social media platform X.

"The words we heard from the main actors of the AfD rally about 'Great Germany' and 'the need to forget German guilt for Nazi crimes' sounded all too familiar and ominous, especially only hours before the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz,” Tusk said.

Monday marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp, and January 27 is observed annually as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
