During a meeting in Paris on Wednesday, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski and his counterparts from France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Britain discussed efforts to synchronise Europe's position on Ukraine, according to the Polish foreign ministry.

The meeting also focused on strengthening European defence, including improving cooperation between defence industries.

The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to achieving "a just and lasting peace" in Ukraine and stressed the need for credible and effective security guarantees as a key priority, the Polish foreign ministry said.

They emphasised that any future peace agreement must account for the interests of both Ukraine and Europe, it added.

The meeting took place in the "Weimar+" format and was attended by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and European Defence and Space Commissioner Andrius Kubilius.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha was a special guest.

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, igniting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Thursday marks the 1,085th day of the war.

Poland, France and Germany work together as part of the Weimar Triangle, a trilateral diplomatic platform aimed at coordinating European policies.
