Poland will not send troops to Ukraine as part of any potential stabilization mission, Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated in an interview with Japan's NHK, according to the Polish state news agency PAP.
Poland’s stance on Ukraine
Speaking from Tokyo during his six-day visit, Sikorski emphasized that Poland’s top priority is securing its border with Russia and Belarus. However, he confirmed that Poland will serve as a logistical hub for countries choosing to deploy forces to Ukraine, providing access to airports, railways, and other infrastructure. He also stressed that continued support for Ukraine remains crucial for the future.
Polish FM Radosław Sikorski met with Japan’s Minister of Defense Gen Nakatani to discuss defense industry collaboration. Their talks covered cybersecurity, space technologies, and drones, along with geopolitical developments and support for Ukraine, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
Securing borders as Poland's priority
„Poland is a good ally and business partner, a gateway to the European Union becoming more and more connected to the world, a country with the highest economic growth in Europe in recent years,” Minister Sikorski emphasized during his speech at Keio University in Tokyo.
Radosław Sikorski referenced a Polish saying that every country has an army, either its own or a foreign one. He stressed that, in the long run, it is more cost-effective for nations to invest in their own defense rather than depend on outside forces for security.
Poland's top diplomat also added that "Russia's invasion of Ukraine has demonstrated the deep connection between Europe and the Indo-Pacific region." This link, he emphasized, should be understood in the context of Russian-Chinese cooperation, as well as the support Moscow receives from Iran and North Korea.
Sikorski's visit to Japan’s naval base
