In an interview released by Russia’s defense ministry, Lavrov also condemned the idea of European forces being stationed in Ukraine, calling it “an affront” for failing to consult Moscow.
Lavrov applauded Trump for “acting appropriately,” noting that the U.S. president’s push for “common sense” signals a new way of conducting policy.
His comments followed a tense Friday meeting in Washington where Trump and Vice President JD Vance reportedly scolded Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for alleged ingratitude, ending talks abruptly and expelling the Ukrainian delegation from the White House.
