Iran and Israel traded fresh blows overnight, with Iranian missiles slamming into Tel Aviv and Haifa, killing at least eight people, and Israel’s air force replying by killing four senior Iranian intelligence officers, Israeli and Iranian officials said on Monday.

Dead and wounded on both sides

  • Israeli authorities said seven of fewer than 100 Iranian missiles reached their territory, destroying homes in Tel Aviv and a power plant in Haifa. More than 100 people were injured.
  • The latest barrage raised Israel’s civilian death toll since Friday to 24.
  • Iran’s health ministry said Israeli strikes have killed 224 people in Iran, 90 percent of them civilians since Israel’s campaign began.

Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that Iranian civilians could suffer if the attacks continue, though he later insisted Israel did not intend to harm them deliberately, Reuters reported.

The military claimed it had destroyed more than a third of Iran’s surface-to-surface launchers and gained “aerial superiority” over Iran.

Tehran weighs NPT exit

Iran’s parliament said it is drafting a bill to quit the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty—a process that could take weeks—even as Tehran reiterated it opposes weapons of mass destruction.

Israel, widely believed to possess nuclear arms, is the only Middle-East state that has never signed the pact.

Global concern, market jitters

G7 leaders meeting in Canada put the spiraling conflict at the top of their agenda.

US President Donald Trump said he still hopes for “a deal” with Tehran despite stalled nuclear talks, but added “sometimes they have to fight it out.”

Oil prices, which jumped 7 percent on Friday, eased on Monday as production facilities remained untouched.
