The Polish Consul General in New York, Adrian Kubicki, told the media that he met with the US city’s Commissioner for International Affairs Penny Abeywardena at the start of this month to discuss ways to strengthen transatlantic business ties amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Diplomats from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary also took part in the meeting, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
The four-nation Visegrad Group (V4) is a regional cooperation platform that brings together Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia.
"Our countries can help bridge supply chains” disrupted by the pandemic “and be good partners for many American companies as well as scientific and business institutions," Kubicki told Polish Radio after the meeting.
He added that the four Central European nations formed a large consumer market and boasted the fastest growing economies in Europe.
"Soon we will be launching a campaign to promote the Visegrad Group of countries in New York as an entity that deserves to be treated as a single whole and thought of in terms of the entire region," Kubicki said.
He told the Polish public radio broadcaster that the Visegrad Group would now be able to have more exposure and increase its visibility in the Big Apple, the beating business heart of the United States.
