Zbigniew Rau made the declaration at a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Birmingham, England.
Throughout 2022, Poland’s top diplomat serves as the chairman of the OSCE.
Rau told the gathering that Russian forces were guilty of crimes such as “attacks against civilian infrastructure, use of illegal weapons, stealing and plundering, rape, execution-style murders committed in cold blood.”
He stressed: “We had thought these immoral and barbaric instruments for waging war belonged to the past. Sadly, we were wrong.”
Russia’s ‘marks of shame’
Poland’s foreign minister said that Ukrainian towns such as Bucha, Irpin, Borodyanka and Kremenchuk “will go down as marks of shame for the aggressor who shows no respect for human life or human dignity.”
‘Those responsible for war crimes will be brought to justice’
Rau emphasised: “Those responsible for the war crimes will be brought to justice.”
He went on to say: “I believe that we are now at a turning point of history. We should know that we will be considered by the future generations not by what we identified as the problem. We will be judged by how we responded to the challenges.”
The 29th annual session of the OSCE’s Parliamentary Assembly began on Saturday.
Monday was day 131 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
