Mateusz Morawiecki made the statement in a speech to the Conservative Summit in Bratislava, Slovakia, on Monday, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
Poland’s PM took part in the event alongside his Slovak counterpart Eduard Heger. Earlier, the two heads of government held bilateral talks in the Slovak capital.
Meanwhile, the Conservative Summit focused on key challenges facing contemporary Europe.
In his speech, Morawiecki told the audience: “In recent decades, so certain was Europe that the demons of the 20th century were a thing of the past, that it went into a geopolitical slumber.”
Central Europe's voice was 'prophetic'
He noted that when the countries of Central Europe were warning against the resurgence of the Kremlin’s neo imperial ambitions, “we were treated as a voice of hysteria.”
“But it was a prophetic voice,” the Polish PM stressed. “Today, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the leaders of other Member States agree with us.”
At the same time, he warned that “many politicians in Western Europe” would readily abandon Ukraine “for a return to business as usual.”
Morawiecki stated that “at a time when mass graves are being dug up in the Ukrainian city of Izyum, no one in Europe should sleep peacefully.”
‘Russia is empire of evil and empire of lies’
The Polish PM stressed: “Today, Russia is an empire of evil and an empire of lies.”
Meanwhile, “today, Europe needs a real conservative revolution,” he added.
“A return to tradition, to normality, to traditional, normal values,” Morawiecki told the audience in Bratislava.
He said that “to date, freedom has not been threatened in the West, and so people have not been able to fully appreciate it.”
"Europe must fight for its traditional values, on which the European Union was built, and it must fight against Russia's policy," the Polish PM urged.
'Central Europe is vital part of the continent'
According to Morawiecki, “Poland and fellow countries of the region are bearing the burden of enormous responsibility” and “are to a large extent the depositaries” of Greek, Roman and Christian tradition.
“This great value that Central Europe can bring to others should be recognised,” he added.
Morawiecki went on to say: “We are a very vital part of today’s Europe. Today, we are on the frontline of the struggle for freedom, so that Ukraine is able to fully shake off this Russian, post-Soviet, communist yoke.”
Tuesday is day 209 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
