Swiss President Viola Amherd held talks with Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky in Bern on Monday.

Afterwards, the Ukrainian leader said Switzerland had agreed to organise a global summit of world leaders on ending the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

It would take place without Russia, according to officials.

"Our teams from tomorrow are starting the preparation for holding in Switzerland a global peace summit," Zelensky told a news conference.

Meanwhile, Amherd added Switzerland would provide Ukraine with EUR 1.6 billion for recovery in 2025-28, public broadcaster Polish Radio's polskieradio24.pl reported.

Zelensky said hopefully the conference would be attended by the countries of the Global South and China.

On Tuesday, Ukraine's president was set to address the 2024 Global Economic Forum in the Swiss ski resort of Davos.

He may meet China's Prime Minister Li Qiang on the sidelines of the event, according to officials.

The guests of the 2024 Global Economic Forum include Polish President Andrzej Duda and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.

Monday's announcement came as Russia's invasion of Ukraine neared the two-year mark, and after Russia stepped up its air attacks on Ukraine in recent weeks, polskieradio24.pl reported.

Tuesday is day 692 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
