Polish unemployment steady at 4.9% in July: stats office

Unemployment in Poland held steady at 4.9 percent in July, unchanged from June, the country's statistics office reported on Wednesday.

The reading was in line with an earlier estimate by the government.

There were around 810,200 people without jobs across the nation at the end of July, compared with 818,000 a month earlier, according to the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) office.

According to the European Union’s Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, unemployment in Poland was a modest 2.7 percent in June, the second-lowest rate in the 27-nation European Union.
