The study has shown that a modest Christmas dinner for four people now costs PLN 145 (EUR 31), compared to PLN 105 (EUR 22.5) a year ago.
Carp, one of the most prominent symbols of the Christmas Eve feast in Poland, grew in price by more than 50% in the last 12 months.
Raging inflation has thus propelled a staggering 60.2% of the surveyed to respond they were seeking to cut costs when doing Christmas shopping.
The main reason behind the financial headache of many Polish families lies double-digit inflation, harrowing Poland since March.
Last month, inflation hit 17.5% year-on-year, marking a slight decline from October’s record 17.9% and an uptick from 17.2% in September, according to the data provided by the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency.
November also saw a surge in the prices of basic consumer products – eggs went up by almost 5% month-on-month, whereas the prices of milk and sugar rose by some 3%, compared to October figures.
