During a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Digitalization, Innovation, and Modern Technologies, Deputy Minister Dariusz Standerski stated that the new U.S. government plans to review feedback on the imposed limits, which have come from Poland, other countries, and private companies, until May 15, 2025.
In mid-January 2025, the U.S. Department of Commerce imposed restrictions on the export of American AI chips to select countries. Poland was classified in the second category of 120 countries, subject to a limit of 50,000 chips, with the possibility of an increase to 100,000.
According to Standerski, from Poland's perspective, the decision made during the final days of the previous Biden administration "is incomprehensible" and could harm Polish-American economic relations and impact investments in other Central and Eastern European countries.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs also announced on Thursday that Poland plans to strengthen its position in Europe in the semiconductor sector. The ministry has developed a special project aimed at attracting global investors, developing this industry in Poland, and enhancing the country's technological sovereignty.
