Sales of motor vehicles shot up by 21.9 percent in January in year-on-year terms, and those of furniture, household appliances and consumer electronics rose by 13.6 percent, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.
Meanwhile, sales of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics went up by 12.8 percent, and those of books and publications dropped 11.3 percent, according to Statistics Poland.
In terms of current prices, retail sales last month were 6.1 percent higher than in January 2023, Statistics Poland said.
In month-on-month terms, retail sales in January were 17.3 percent lower than in December, the statistics office also reported.
