Head of state-run Orlen, Daniel Obajtek, said that diversification and stability of petroleum supplies have been a priority for the Polish oil giant for four years now.

‘During this time, we established and cemented our relationships with oil producers from all over the world,’ Obajtek stated.

Orlen severed its ties with Russian suppliers upon the outbreak of the Ukraine war and has been looking into alternative import sources since.

‘We have imported and refined 100 different types of crude oil from outside of Russia. Our operations translate into strengthening energy security not only in Poland, but also in Czechia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia,’ head of PKN Orlen added.

In his view, an EU-wide withdrawal from Russian oil supplies is crucial to keeping the oil market in balance.

Obajtek stressed that Poland has been foresightedly injecting funds into key energy infrastructure investments, such as the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline from Norway, which is planned to become operational on October 1, 2022.
