According to the bloc’s statistics agency, price levels for consumer goods and services in 2021 ranged widely across the EU.
Denmark and Ireland had the highest price levels, with 140% of the EU average, followed by Luxembourg (132%), Sweden (128%) and Finland (126%).
Romania and Bulgaria were found to have had the lowest price levels (both 56%), followed by Poland (60%).
According to Eurostat, the price level for restaurants and hotels ranked first in terms of price difference, with prices in the most expensive country almost 340% higher than in the cheapest one.
Alcohol and tobacco recorded second highest difference. The bloc’s lowest levels were found in Bulgaria (64%), Poland (72%) and Hungary (79%). EU member states with the highest prices for alcohol and tobacco were Ireland (205%), Finland (173%) and Sweden (136%).
