EUR 10.8 bn trade deficit for Poland in first five months of 2022: stats office

Poland had a foreign trade deficit of around EUR 10.8 billion in the first five months of this year, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported on Friday.

The country’s exports from the beginning of January to the end of May totaled EUR 136.2 billion, while imports were worth EUR 146.9 billion, the state-run statistics agency said.

It added that Poland's exports during this period increased by 20.4 percent in zloty terms at current prices compared with the first five months of 2021, while imports grew by 34.3 percent year on year.

Poland’s largest export markets in the first five months of this year were Germany, the Czech Republic and France, while Germany, China and Russia were the country’s largest import markets, data showed.

Poland ended last year with a foreign trade deficit of EUR 600 million, according to the Central Statistical Office.

Poland’s exports totaled EUR 285.8 billion in 2021 as a whole, while imports were worth EUR 286.4 billion.
