The deal was signed during the Railway Direction Days 2023 conference in Warsaw, the gazetaprawna.pl website reported.

According to the Polish government, the three-year agreement covers “the development of new cross-border connections on the European 1435 mm gauge network, in particular the construction of a high-speed railway line.”

The document "provides for the joint preparation of a feasibility study for the planned new railway lines between Poland and Ukraine," the government in Warsaw said in a statement.

“It identifies the construction of a HSR line on the Warsaw–Lviv–Kyiv route … with an assumed maximum operating speed of 250 km/h,” the Polish government added.

The new railway line will link Poland’s planned new mega transport hub, dubbed the Solidarity Transport Hub, with the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, officials said.

Mikołaj Wild, the government official who is overseeing the construction of the Solidarity Transport Hub, halfway between Warsaw and Łódź, told reporters: Together with Ukrainian Railways, we are starting joint work on the Warsaw-Lviv-Kyiv HSR line.”

"It's a historic moment," he said.

Wild added: “The shortest route from Ukraine to the European Union leads through Poland and the Solidarity Transport Hub,” the PAP news agency reported.

Poland's state-run CPK company, which is tasked with building the new transport hub, said it was ready to help with the postwar reconstruction of Ukraine, according to officials.

Thursday was day 330 of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
