New information about Poland’s presence at the Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai event was unveiled by the state-run Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH) on Thursday.

Two years to go

Meanwhile, Japan’s top officials, including Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, took part in a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the exhibition in the port city of Osaka, with two years to go before the global event kicks off on April 13, 2025The Asahi Shimbun newspaper reported.

The countdown to the exhibition, billed as “the world’s biggest and most important economic and cultural event,” has now entered the final two years, officials said.

'Designing future society for our lives'

Expo 2025 will be held under the theme of Designing Future Society for Our Lives, organisers announced.

The main theme is divided into three sub-themes: Saving Lives, Empowering Lives and Connecting Lives, according to PAIH.

More than 150 countries are expected to be represented at Expo 2025, while visitor numbers may exceed 28 million, organisers said.

Polish pavilion at Expo 2025

Grzegorz Piechowiak, the Polish government’s commissioner for foreign investment, told reporters on Thursday: “By taking part in Expo 2025, Poland will be seeking to enhance its image on the international stage and establish new economic contacts.”

He announced that the Polish pavilion would be located in the Saving Lives zone, adding that this sub-theme of Expo 2025 “refers to the role of advanced technology in supporting health, bolstering security, saving humanity’s mental well-being, and promoting harmonious co-existence between people and nature.”

Piechowiak, who is in charge of Poland’s presence at Expo 2025, stated that the Polish pavilion “will not only showcase Poland’s glorious achievements, but also highlight issues that are of key importance to the future of the upcoming generations.”

Polish ‘creativity gene’

The proposed design of the Polish pavilion stems from the fascination of architects Alicja Kubicka and Borja Martinez “with the geometry of the spiral, which appears in nature on every scale,” PAIH said.

The proposed shape of the pavilion is “a metaphor of the ‘creativity gene’ that is inherent in Polish people and also spreads beyond the country’s borders,” the agency added.

The Polish pavilion will be designed to demonstrate that “novel ideas conceived by individuals generate innovative concepts across the world,” but also that “knowledge and experience acquired abroad return to the centre of gravity of our nation,” according to officials.

PAIH’s CEO Paweł Kurtasz said: “This concept of the Polish pavilion will fit seamlessly into the image of Poland that we’ve been consistently building, namely as a country whose main asset are its people—people who are creative, open, professional, aware of life’s challenges, bold in their thoughts and actions and who often even go ahead of their time.”

'Heritage that drives the future'

Poland will take part in Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai under the motto of Poland. Heritage That Drives the Future, PAIH also announced on Thursday.

The Polish pavilion will showcase the country’s heritage of “creativity and an ability to deal with the challenges of everyday life in solidarity,” officials said.

These characteristic features are reflected in the deeds of outstanding Poles, including “artists, innovators, visionaries, scientists and entrepreneurs” who achieved “international renown” and were “far ahead of their time,” according to PAIH.

Expo 2025 will run on the artificial island of Yumeshima, in Japan’s port city of Osaka, from April 13 to October 13, 2025.
